Prof. Eun-Ok Im received a PhD in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco, where she also held a postdoctoral position. Prof. Im has practiced nursing mostly in academic settings for the last two decades. She is currently Professor at The University of Texas at Austin.

Prof. Im's most outstanding contribution to nursing is a research program that adopts Internet and computer technologies to eliminate gender and ethnic disparities. She has taken the lead in this burgeoning field, and her current studies are among the first of their kind to use these technologies to build nursing knowledge.

Prof. Im has gained national and international recognition as a methodologist and theorist in international cross-cultural nursing research through more than 70 refereed journal publications and over 100 professional presentations. Her published articles on feminist critique, situation-specific theories, and Internet research methodologies are cited by many researchers around the world. Her work on situation-specific theories has been widely accepted as a new type of nursing theory that can be easily applied to nursing. She has also written about the ethics of Internet research.

Prof. Im has served as a scientific reviewer for the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Oncology Nursing Foundation, and the Sigma Theta Tau International grants, among her various roles as an expert. She is also on the editorial boards of two prestigious nursing journals (Nursing Research and RINAH) and on the review boards of eight journals. She has been a charter member of the Nursing Science: Children and Families (NSCF) study section since 2005.
